Woman admits theft of motorcycle helmet

A woman has admitted stealing a cycle helmet from a bike parked at the Swizzle Inn in Hamilton Parish.

Ashley Bassett, 25, pleaded guilty yesterday to taking the helmet worth $350 on June 29.

The court heard that the complainant had parked her bike at the restaurant around 10.50pm and left the helmet in the basket.

She discovered the helmet was missing when she returned to the bike at 1.20am and alerted the manager.

CCTV footage showed the defendant removing the helmet and leaving the property.

Police officers were able to identify Bassett from the footage and arrested her at her Hamilton Parish home.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report and adjourned sentencing until September 27.

Bassett was released on $1,000 bail.
