Court reports were ordered on a 21-year-old who admitted stealing his grandmother’s phone after an argument.

Talibah Santaly, from Warwick, pleaded guilty to the theft, but said he did not remember what he did with the phone.

Magistrates’ Court heard that sometime after 8pm on December 2, Santaly’s grandmother was at their home when she heard him shouting from another room.

She asked him to quiet down and the two argued and he snatched her $700 phone from her before he walked outside.

She heard a loud noise as if an object had been thrown against the wall.

He later admitted to police that he had taken the phone, but couldn’t remember what he did with it.

Santaly told the court: “I don’t know what I was thinking. I don’t remember the rest of the night.”

He also said he intended to pay his grandmother back for the cost of the phone.

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe released Santaly on $1,000 bail and ordered a social inquiry report and a drug assessment before he is sentenced next month.
