A man weeks away from having a year-long driving ban lifted was given another two years off the road yesterday after he was caught behind the wheel while more than double the legal alcohol limit.Mahkai Davis, 26, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court yesterday to drink-driving and driving while disqualified. The court heard that police stopped Davis on South Road in Paget on June 15 for speeding and saw that he had trouble standing.Davis insisted he had not been drinking but was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.Police later discovered that Davis had been banned from the roads until July 4.A breath test also showed that Davis, from Warwick, had 216 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg/100ml.Davis told the court that he thought his road ban had ended at the time of the incident.Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe fined him $2,000 and ordered him to pay by September 4. He also banned Davis from the roads for two years for driving while disqualified.Mr Wolffe banned Davis for another 18 months for drink-driving, but ordered it to run concurrently with the two-year disqualification.• It is The Royal Gazette’s policy not to allow comments on stories regarding court cases.
