Scotland shines in Surrey triumph

Destructive spell: Surrey Under-13 player Scotland

Marcus Scotland claimed a four-wicket maiden to help Surrey win the NatWest England and Wales Cricket Board Under-13 final.

Scotland, the grandson of Rupert Scotland, the former St George’s Cup Match legend, bowled all four of his victims to reduce Guildford to 88 for eight from their 20 overs and hand Surrey a 25-run victory.

The opening batsman, whose father Cleon also played Cup Match for St George’s, also scored 32 before having to retire as Surrey made 113 for nine from their allotted overs.

Scotland has been selected to represent Surrey Under-13 at the prestigious Taunton Festival from July 24 to 29.

He has also been named in the Bermuda Cricket Board Under-17 Tri Series Development Tour to Houston, where they will play the United States and Canada from July 15 to 20.

A former trialist for Sky Bet Championship side Fulham, Scotland’s batting average for club side Spencer is 51.80 from ten matches. His overall average, including seven Surrey District and County games, is 28.08, which is impressive considering he has to retire either at 30 or 40 depending on the length of the match.
