Bermuda suffered defeat in their opening match in the ICC Americas Under-17 Triangular Tournament in Houston, Texas yesterday, going down by 188 runs to Canada after being dismissed for 72.

Set 261 to win, Bermuda had a bad start when Jabari Darrell was dismissed in the second over with just three on the board. Rudi Butterfield came in and retired injured immediately before eventually returning and scoring ten, his dismissal made it 61 for six as wickets fell cheaply at both ends.

Opener Alje Richardson fell for five after facing 20 balls, Marcus Scotland was bowled for five and Nzari Paynter for two, before top scorer Dalin Richardson eventually departed for 29 to make it 72 for eight. He faced 61 balls, and hit three fours and a six.

Jaiden Manders was then out leg-before for a golden duck as Canada wrapped up an easy victory, dismissing Bermuda in just 26.1 overs. Nirobi Mills did not bat after earlier going off the field fatigued and with towels wrapped around his head following the completion of his eighth over.

Earlier, Canada posted a challenging 260 for nine in 50 overs with Arsalan Khan making 113 off 94 balls. He hit 13 fours and shared in a fourth wicket stand of 102 with Samuel Krishen, who made 20, as the pair took the score from 62 to 164, when Manders took a return catch to dismiss Krishen.

Manders, a Western Stars Premier Division player, then took the next two wickets on 196 and 209 as Peter Pretorius was trapped leg-before for six after facing 20 balls, while Khan was caught by Dalin Richardson to give Manders his third wicket of the innings. He finished with figures of three for 26 from six overs of spin.

Opener Emanuel Khokhar was the next high scorer for Canada with 31 off 32 balls with six fours. Canada lost their first wicket on 14 before Khokhar was out for 62 in the twelfth over.

Dalin Richardson claimed three quick wickets late in the innings as Canada slipped to 235 for nine before a last wicket stand of 25 took them past 250, with Aran Pathmanathan finishing on 24 not out. Richardson gave up 20 runs in his five overs, after coming on as the eighth bowler. Spinner Nzari Paynter, the first change, took two for 40 off ten overs.

Bermuda play their second match in the triangular tournament when they meet the United States today. Canada have two wins after beating the US by nine wickets on Thursday.

The US were dismissed for just 77 in 30 overs and Canada reached 78 for one in just 13.4 overs.

The teams will play each other twice before the tournament finishes next Wednesday.
