Bermuda slumped to a four-wicket defeat as Canada ended their ICC Americas Under-17 tournament in Houston unbeaten.

Restricted to a paltry 119 for nine off 50 overs, Bermuda were never likely to get the better of a strong Canada side at Moosa Stadium.

In the end it took Canada just 19.2 overs to knock off the runs, with Krishen Samuel finishing unbeaten on 23.

The loss of three late wickets at least made the Canada score look somewhat respectable from Bermuda’s point of view, with Canada losing three wickets for six runs as they collapsed to 117 for six.

Akash Gil, who top-scored with 32, started the slide when he flicked a good-length ball from Alje Richardson to Cory Burgess at square leg. Pranav Sharma was then run out by Jaiden Manders, and Peter Pretorius followed soon after when he was bowled by Amori Dean Simons.

Still, the game was never really in doubt and Samuel hit Richardson through the covers to end the game. Dalin Richardson was the pick of the Bermuda bowlers, taking two for 20 in his four overs.

Canada’s brisk scoring was in stark contrast to that of Bermuda, who scored at less than three runs per over, and whose batsmen seemed more intent on batting out the overs than scoring runs.

Nzari Paynter was the exception to that rule, top scoring with a relatively rapid 38 off 56 balls. At the other end of the spectrum, Alje Richardson and Dalin Richardson faced 52 balls each, making 11 and 12 runs respectively.

Rommel Shahzad was the pick of the Canada bowlers, taking 3 for 18 in his ten overs.

Bermuda, who have yet to win a game, play their last match of the tournament today against the United States, who beat them by 155 runs on Saturday.
