Yesterday’s two First Division matches were called off after no umpires were available for the games at Wellington Oval and White Hill Field.

St George’s were to play Devonshire Recreation Club in a match between two teams aiming for promotion, while Somerset Bridge were scheduled to meet Warwick Workmen’s Club in the only other match.

“This time of the year points are at a premium,” said Dennis Williams, of Devonshire Recreation Club, who was informed on Saturday that his side’s match would not go ahead.

“We’re not too disappointed, having to play the Sunday after Cup Match, it wasn’t good timing.”

Devonshire are second in the table and St George’s fourth.
