Dion Stovell will be back in Southampton Rangers colours tomorrow after being named in their team for the Western Counties third round clash with champions Willow Cuts at PHC Field.

Stovell, now with St David’s, comes in as a guest player as Rangers picked an experienced team last night for what should be the top match in the competition.

Cuts were also considering their options last night, looking to bring in Chris Douglas, also of St David’s, as one of their two guest players.

Ricardo Brangman Jr, who joined Rangers this season and is their main wicketkeeper, will also play as a guest player after joining the team this season.

This match, between the two Premier Division sides, is seen as the big match in the Western Counties. More spice will be added to the game after controversy in last year’s second round when Rangers, then the champions, refused to play Willow Cuts after they included guest players Douglas and O’Brien.

Rangers were subsequently stripped of the title as Cuts were declared the winners, but now they have a chance to win it back.

“We’ve let that go now, we’re just going to put our best foot forward and play the game,” Ricky Brangman, the Rangers coach, said. “We’re going down there looking to take the cup from Willow Cuts.

“We’ve not had a bad year so it looks good. I just hope that Rangers fans come out and support us and that we can put on a good show.

“This will be the first time that we’ve played down there in the Western Counties so it would be nice to see a lot of people come out and support the teams.

“This is the big one, Willow Cuts always come strong and we always come strong. We’re looking for a good game and I’m sure they are looking the same way.”

Rangers will be led by Janeiro Tucker in what will be his first match since his century last week in Cup Match. Stovell’s inclusion adds some depth to their batting, while the bowling has plenty of experience with the likes of Kevin Tucker, Hasan Durham, Ryan Belboda and Vernon Eve.

Cuts were comfortable winners over Warwick and PHC in the first and second rounds as teenager Solomon Burrows scored his maiden counties century in the PHC match after while Douglas hit 92.

One Premier Division and a First Division match will be played tomorrow with Cleveland taking on Bailey’s Bay at Wellington Oval in a rescheduled match, while Somerset meet Flatts in a crucial First Division match at Somerset Cricket Club.

On Sunday, Southampton Rangers will host Western Stars in the league while Willow Cuts entertain St David’s, the league leaders, at Somerset. Flatts play St George’s at St David’s on Sunday in the First Division, while PHC host Somerset.

• The Masters Twenty20 League will resume this evening with a double-header at Somerset Cricket Club starting at 6pm. Lloyd’s Drivers will play Soup’s Sportsmen in the opening match, followed by Bummy’s Skippers against Tubby’s Legends.

On Saturday, at the completion of the league match between Somerset and Flatts, Butler’s Spinners will play Woodgate’s Keepers.
