Wright Cricket Field, Woodley Park, Los Angeles (Bermuda won toss): Bermuda (2pts) beat Jersey by 85 runs (D/L method)Bermuda's hopes of promotion from the World Cricket League Division Four are all but over despite a superb century by Kamau Leverock in their big win over Jersey yesterday.Opening pair Leverock and captain OJ Pitcher responded to coach Clay Smith's challenge to the top order to post big scores by sharing in a huge first-wicket stand of 211.Leverock was in destructive form with 137 off 111 balls, including eight sixes, while Pitcher scored 63 as Bermuda posted a tournament-high total of 312 for eight wickets in their allotted overs, which were reduced to 45 a side after a delay because a sightscreen was brought down by high winds. Cejay Outerbridge then did the damage with the ball, taking five wickets for 25 runs off 7.2 overs as Jersey were dismissed for 227 in 37.2 overs.

However, Bermuda's chances of the second promotion spot behind the United States suffered a blow when Denmark bounced back from their loss to Smith's side on Tuesday to defeat the host nation by four wickets.It was the highest run chase of the tournament, with Zameer Khan scoring 97 not out and Freddie Klokker 86. With Denmark and Oman level on six points and having to play each other in their final match tomorrow, one will gain promotion to Division Three. This leaves Bermuda needing to beat winless Italy and hope that the Americans will suffer the upset of the tournament in their pool finale against Jersey.A US victory will assure them of promotion while also making Bermuda safe from relegation, regardless of their result against Italy. Bermuda produced the tournament's first double-century stand when, after losing the toss, Leverock and Pitcher laid superb foundations, batting together for 33 overs before Leverock was finally bowled by Charles Perchard. His knock surpassed the 124 not out posted by Steven Taylor, the US captain, against Oman the previous day. Bermuda produced the tournament's highest total despite the innings being reduced to 45 overs after one of the sightscreens was blown down by the strong winds. The partnership almost surpassed the record stand of 223 that David Hemp and Stephen Outerbridge shared for the third wicket during a World Cup qualifying ninth and tenth place play-off match against Uganda in South Africa in April 2009 when Bermuda chased 352 to win by eight wickets. Hemp scored 170 that day, a record for a Bermuda batsman, which beat the previous mark of 124 he had scored against Oman a few days previously. Leverock, who just turned 22, looked set to post a bigger score after smashing successive sixes off the first three balls of the 32nd over as he treated 20-year-old spinner Rhys Palmer with disdain. On the last ball of that over Pitcher quietly brought up his fifty with a single, taking 84 balls in total. The pair reached their century partnership in 19.5 overs, by which time Leverock already had 70 to his credit. Pitcher was content to play the supporting role at the other end, letting the elegant left-hander play his shots around the ground. The sightscreen delay came immediately after Leverock reached his half-century off 53 balls with his seventh four. Leverock and Pitcher were quickly back in their flow after the half-hour delay, adding 25 runs in the next five overs to bring up the 100 in 19.5 overs. When Leverock was dismissed Janeiro Tucker came in with Bermuda looking to launch a further assault on the Jersey bowling in the final ten overs. Tucker and Pitcher added 31 in four overs before Tucker departed for 19 after skying a catch. The next ball Pitcher was bowled by Perchard for 63. Two wickets also went down on 267, Delray Rawlins departing for ten and Steven Bremar run out first ball, one of three run-outs late in the Bermuda innings. Another Bermuda youngster seized his chance to shine along with Leverock, as Outerbridge came back for his second spell to claim the last three Jersey wickets to seal the victory.
