Local umpire Emmerson Carrington has been selected by the ICC to officiate in the regional World Cricket League qualifier to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from February 21 to 23.

The three-match series between Cayman Islands and Argentina will determine which country competes in the World Cricket League Division 5.

Cricket Argentina have also requested Carrington officiate in a domestic three-day match and provide some training to local junior umpires after the tournament. Lloyd Fray, the president of the Bermuda Cricket Board, congratulated Carrington on the appointment.

“Bermuda has a strong history of producing quality international umpires who have proven themselves on the international stage consistently,” Fray said.

“I have no doubt that Emmerson will continue to enhance that reputation. I congratulate him and the Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association on this appointment and trust that not only will Emmerson grow from the experience but the opportunity will aspire others to follow in his footsteps.

“I also take this opportunity to remind Bermuda that the BCUA is running an umpire training course at Bermuda College, room B260 on Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm for six weeks starting today.”
