Tokio Millennium Re are sponsoring five players from their recent Pee Wee Cricket programme to attend the Bermuda Cricket Board Easter or Summer Camp.

Chaz Godwin and Sophie Card of Northlands, A-Meerah Richardson-Swan of Heron Bay, Ashir Graham of Harrington Sound and Stefan Telford-Brangman of Dalton E Tucker are the lucky recipients, having just completed the recent camp at Berkeley School field where a record 131 children registered in the two age categories.

The camp included a customised coaching session for parents to enhance their ability to develop their child’s cricketing skills. There was also a match between the children and their parents.

“My favourite part of the camp was that I bowled out my mom [Roxianna Richardson],” Richardson-Swan said.

Neil Speight, the BCB chief executive, said: “We’re here to extend our thanks to Tokio Millennium for all the work they do, six years of Pee Wee Cricket, six years of under-8 cricket and to enhance the programme this year we’ve worked with them to provide five scholarships for these children to participate in the Easter Camp at West Pembroke next week.”

Kathleen Faries, of Tokio Millennium Re, said: “Tokio Millennium Re is proud to partner with the Bermuda Cricket Board to provide scholarships to five of this year’s older Pee Wee cricket players to attend the Bermuda Cricket Board’s Easter or Summer Camp. Tokio Millennium Re actively promotes healthy lifestyles in our community and this includes programmes such as the Pee Wee Cricket and the 8-and-under league that is well organised, structured and fun.”

Lloyd Fray, president of the BCB, thanked Tokio Millennium Re for their support of youth cricket.

“Their support has enabled us to offer these programmes free of charge,” Fray said. “The main purpose of the BCB camps is to teach the skills of cricket while enriching the lives of all of Bermuda’s children by keeping them safe and active over the break, playing a sport they love. The camp incorporates skill-building activities and games to incorporate the skills they learnt in practice.

“Each day the camp focuses on a character-building skill such as respect or fairness, for example, and players are encouraged to incorporate these skills into daily activities.”

Space is still available in the Easter camp. To register, go to www.cricket.bm or contact the BCB at 292-8958 or by e-mail on info@cricket.bm
