Rawlins back in the runs

Delray Rawlins was back in the runs on Thursday, scoring 43 for the Sussex Second XI in their seven-wicket victory over Hampshire in the 50-over Trophy at Preston Nomads CC on the South Downs.

Phil Salt hit a century for Sussex, who replied to the 288 for nine posted by Hampshire in their 50 overs, with 289 for three. It was their second victory after beating Essex on Monday.

Salt, 20, hit 123 from only 136 deliveries after opening the batting. Salt shared in partnerships of 82 with Angus Robson (30) and 87 with Rawlins. His final partnership was one worth 62 with Alex Woodland, who scored 33 not out along with Michael Burgess to see Sussex to victory with three overs remaining.

Hampshire were led by Joe Barrett’s 109 as Tom Hampton was the pick of the Sussex bowlers, claiming three for 51 from his ten overs.

Sussex’s Second XI are back in action on Tuesday when they head to Southgate to face Middlesex in the Trophy.
