Cann keeps St George’s on top

Veteran Lionel Cann had a knock of 71 as St George’s remained unbeaten at the top of the First Division after beating Flatts by six wickets at Wellington Oval yesterday.

Flatts were dismissed for 166 in 43 overs with Reggie Baker their top bat with 34 while Regino Smith scored 30 and Kijuan Franks 20. Ryan Steede, the St George’s player-coach, claimed four for 24 off seven overs while captain Macai Simmons supported with three for 36 from ten and Lorenzo Bean two for 23.

Cann, who scored a century last weekend against Willow Cuts, hit eight fours and three sixes after opening the innings. He and Onias Bascome (56) put on 111 for the second wicket after St George’s lost their first wicket on ten.

Bascome had seven fours and a six in his innings as Nelson Bascome claimed two for 34 for Flatts.

On Saturday, PHC beat Willow Cuts by 30 runs at Somerset Cricket Club. PHC scored 154 with Kwasi James claiming three for 36 from ten overs and Joseph Basden three for 13 off five.

PHC then restricted Willow Cuts to 124 all out in 34 overs with seamer Darrin Anglin finishing with impressive figures of five for 17 off ten overs while Romel McDonald supported with three for 23.

Bergon Spencer was high man for Cuts with 26 while James and Kamal Bashir both scored 23.
