A total of 288 was almost not enough against Western Stars the previous weekend, but 271 for eight proved too much for Southampton Rangers as St David’s posted their fourth straight victory in the One Premier Division with a 146-run victory.

Rangers, who were dismissed in 29.5 overs for just 125, did not get a substantial batting contribution until Rohaan Simons, at No 7, posted 44 not out to rescue the Western Counties champions from 52 for six after just 15 overs.

The next high bat for Rangers was Ricardo Brangman with 17 as George O’Brien claimed three for 28 off his seven overs after sharing the new ball with Cejay Outerbridge who finished with two for 29 after returning to claim the final wicket to win the match.

Dion Stovell had impressive figures of two for ten off six overs while another off-spinner, Delyone Borden, took two for eight runs off three overs.

Earlier, Chris Douglas led the St David’s batting with 85 from 53 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes while O’Brien added 40 not out at No 8.

Allan Douglas smashed a quick 32 off three fours and two sixes in the middle order while Stovell added 29.

St David’s lost Borden in the first over when the score was two, before a second wicket stand of 46 in the next ten overs between Ajuan Lamb (13) and Douglas had St David’s scoring freely. Douglas then added 73 in 12 overs with Stovell as the pair carried the score from 73 for three to 145 by the 29th over.

Douglas and his cousin Allan then quickened the scoring between the 29th and 35th overs when they added 61 before Allan fell to spinner Vernon Eve who also removed Chris in that same over to make it 198 for six.

Eve finished with three for 52 off ten overs while opener Kevin Tucker had two for 40 off his ten.

The run chase for Rangers was always too steep after losing Alex Dore in the second over and then Kwame Tucker and James Celestine soon after before Dean Stephens also went cheaply to make it 39 for four after ten overs.

n Cleveland fell just short of picking up their first win when they went down by 20 runs to Somerset at Somerset Cricket Club. Somerset posted 200 for nine in their 50 overs with Alje Richardson scoring 77 and captain Jordan DeSilva 27 as Treadwell Gibbons, who didn’t bowl last weekend in the loss against Rangers, led the Cleveland bowling with four for 20 off ten overs.

Clay Darrell claimed two for 34 off ten and captain Dennis Musson two for 33 from nine.

In reply, Cleveland posted 180 in 39 overs with Temiko Wilson their high man with 55 while Steven Bremar scored 34.

Marcus Johnson was the pick of the Somerset bowlers with four for 35 off eight overs as Somerset picked up their second straight victory.

Micah Simons took two for 45 off eight, DeSilva two for 24 from nine and Azhar Morrissey two for 37 off four overs.
