Trott stars with bat and ball for PHC

Steede was the pick of the visitors’ attack

Charles Trott produced a fine all-round display to guide PHC to a 51-run victory over St George’s in a low-scoring encounter at PHC Field yesterday.

Trott led the home side’s batting with 29 and then returned to claim three wickets with the new ball to help his team to a fourth league win of the season.

He led a fightback along with Wendell Dottin after PHC were in a spot of bother at 57 for three.

The middle order pair added 53 runs for the sixth wicket, which went a long way towards PHC posting 167 all out in 39 overs. Dottin added 26 with opener Ellsworth Bean and wicketkeeper-batsman Jelani Albouy chipping in with 20 apiece and Dev Hanuman 15.

Ryan Steede, the St George’s player-coach, was the pick of the visitors’ attack with three for nine from five overs, which included two maidens.

Opening bowler Akeem Trott took two for 26 and third change Macai Simmons two for 28.

PHC’s total seemed well within the visitors’ reach.

However, the hosts made a real fist of it and with Trott and Hanuman leading the charge defended their modest total.

Seamer Trott shared the new ball with off spinner Hanuman and the tactic worked as the pair claimed six wickets between them to put St George’s on the back foot.

Former PHC batsman Richard Todd topped the St George’s batting with an unbeaten 38 while Simmons and Steede added 21 apiece.

Trott finished with figures of three for 36 and Hanuman three for 25.

Elsewhere, Willow Cuts edged Somerset Bridge by five runs at White Hill Field.

Cuts scored 178 for eight in their allotted overs after electing to bat with Kwasi James top scoring with a well-played 71 that proved to be the backbone of his team’s innings.

A rain delay between innings reduced Bridge’s target to 92 from 21 overs on Duckworth/Lewis.

The hosts put up a good fight, replying with 87 for six before the overs ran out.

Sheroy Fubler led the Cuts attack with three wickets while Kamel Easton took two.

Yesterday’s remaining First Division match at Devonshire Recreation Club saw Flatts Victoria Club beat hosts Devonshire by 59 runs.
