Nzari Paynter warmed up for Bermuda’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup qualifiers in Toronto in the best possible way at Southampton Oval yesterday.

The 17-year-old St George’s all-rounder played an integral role in the visitors emphatic 111-run triumph over hosts Warwick in the First Division.

Paynter, the Bermuda Under-19 vice-captain, ripped the heart out of the Warwick batting order on his way to outstanding figures of four for 36.

Among the seamer’s casualties was Dwayne “Streaker” Adams who led the batting for a Warwick side that came up short in their run chase.

St George’s were dismissed in the 44th over for 253 after electing to bat, with Ryan Steede, the player/coach, top scoring with 38. Lionel Cann, the former Warwick player/coach, chipped in with 33 and Macai Simmons 24.

The bulk of St George’s runs came via the 53 runs Warwick conceded in extras, including 29 wides.

Stefan Dill was the pick of the Warwick bowling attack with three for 54 while second change Kristen Singh took two for 49.

In reply, Warwick could only muster 142 in 26 overs with opening batsman Adams leading the hosts resistance with a match-high knock of 42.

Middle order batsman Kyle Swan added 19 and tail-ender Dill 22.

Assisting Paynter, who departs for Toronto today with his Bermuda Under 19 team-mates, was new ball partner Detroy Smith who claimed three for 41 while Isaiah Greaves took two for 27.
