DeSilva to pick up Cup Match award

Somerset captain DeSilva

Jordan DeSilva will receive the Cup Match Sportsmanship award when the Bermuda Friendly Societies Association holds its 14th annual ceremony tonight at the Manchester Unity Hall in Hamilton.

The Somerset captain, in the opinion of the umpires, best exemplified the principles of good sportsmanship and fair play throughout the match at Wellington Oval which finished in a draw.

Junius Durrant, the oldest surviving Somerset Cup Match player, will be guest speaker at the ceremony while Clay Smith, the first BFSA Sportsmanship Award winner in 2004 and a former St George’s Cup Match captain, will be the guest presenter. Players from both Cup Match teams will be present for the award which was previously won by Somerset’s Stephen Outerbridge.

The winner is presented with a number of prizes, including the Bermuda Friendly Societies Association Shield, the Emancipation Cup and the Clarence O. Darrell Cup.

The active membership of the BFSA comprises six Lodges, the Loyal Mayflower Lodge, the Flower of the Day Lodge, the Princess Royal Union Lodge, Alexandrina Lodge, the Household of Ruth and the Loyal Irresistible Lodge.
