Smith on the attack in St David’s triumph

Oni Smith was voted the man of the match as St David’s beat Cleveland by six wickets in the Junior Eastern Counties final on Saturday at Sea Breeze Oval.

St David’s won the toss and sent Cleveland in, bowling them out for 99 as Dean Simons claimed the last two wickets on 99 to finish with figures of four for 20 off 7.2 overs.

Smith took four wickets for only nine runs from seven overs of spin to lead the St David’s bowling. Najiyah Raynor, last weekend’s colt in the senior counties, scored 24 to lead the Cleveland batting.

Domain Rabain supported with 15 while Zeri Thomlinson scored 13 and Kijuan Simons 11.

Mackai Gittens led the St David’s batting with 27, while opener Simons scored 17 and Smith 12. Shaddai Somersall finished with 12 not out.

Nahri Talbot led the Cleveland bowling with two for eleven off six overs, while Thomlinson and Akerem Burgess had one wicket apiece.

• Tuff Dogs remain on course to complete the Evening Cricket League’s coveted Premier Division double for the second season running.

They won the league in emphatic style, totalling 30 points, seven clear of Fine Leg Byes, with Renegades third on 21 points and The Associates fourth on 19.

Tuff Dogs now face The Associates in the semi-finals of the knockout cup, starting at 2pm on September 16 at Shelly Bay.

The other semi-final, between Fine Leg Byes and Renegades, who lost to Tuff Dogs by 85 runs in last season’s final, starts at 10am.

North Village top the Second Division standings with two matches left to play. The division’s knockout semi-finals have been pencilled in for September 9.
