Rain stopped play at Lord’s with Western Stars 105 for five after 37 overs in their match against St David’s.

The Premier Division Open League match did not start until 12.25 because of morning rain and an afternoon downpour sent the teams off for good at 2.45, before the umpires abandoned play at 4pm.

After opting to bat upon winning the toss, Western Stars were in early trouble at 20 for five before a fifth wicket stand of 46 between Justin Robinson and veteran Andre Manders steadied things before Manders departed for 26. Robinson and youngster Giovanni Warren put on 39 for the unbroken sixth wicket before the teams went off with Robinson on 38 and Warren 14.

Captain Justin Pitcher led the St David’s bowling with two for 13 off seven overs with three maidens while Rudell Pitcher, who shared the new ball with his captain, had two for 26 off nine overs.

• St David’s hit back from their season-opening loss to Bailey’s Bay with a 93-run victory over Southampton Rangers at Lord’s on Saturday.

St David’s posted 197 in 53 overs with Allan Douglas their high man with 46 from four fours and a six after coming in at No 5 with the score 22 for three. He and opener Ajuan Lamb added 62 runs for the fourth wicket when Lamb departed for 37, scored from three fours and two sixes.

Justin Pitcher, batting at No 6, scored 32 while Rudell Pitcher, batting at eight, added a valuable 26 as St David’s pushed towards their winning target.

Nirobi Mills, playing his first match for Rangers, claimed five for 57 from 17 overs after sharing the new ball with Sheldon Caesar who took three for 43 off eleven overs. Lamont Brangman claimed two for 39 from nine overs with three maidens.

Southampton’s run chase was derailed by a middle order collapse which saw them slump from 45 for two to 66 for six. Two more wickets fell on 85 and 88 before they were eventually all out for 104 in 35.3 overs.

Ricardo Brangman, their batting hero against St George’s last weekend with 97 not out, was high man with 30, batting at No 3, while opener Shannon Rayner scored 24 against his former team. Opener Malachi Jones and No 10 batsmen Caesar both scored 14 as Rangers fell well short of their target after Brian Hall’s five-wicket haul ripped through their batting.

Hall had figures of five for 13 from 12.3 overs with four maidens while opener Douglas claimed three for 25 and opener Justin Pitcher took two for 31 as completed an impressive victory.
