Wellington Oval (Flatts won toss) St George’s beat Flatts Victoria by 6 runs

St George’s overcame Flatts Victoria by six runs in a Twenty20 Premier Division match at Wellington Oval yesterday that was reduced to eight overs because of a wet pitch from overnight showers.

Opening batsman Detroy Smith blasted 25 from 14 balls, as the home side posted 62 for six in their allotted overs after being sent to bat. No other St George’s batsman managed double figures while there were ten extras.

First change Kijuan Franks was the pick of the Flatts bowling attack with three for 15 off just two overs and got solid support from Paul Carr Harvey who claimed two for 16 also off two overs.

St George’s made early inroads defending their total as Franks (4), C Van Tonder (0) and Nelson Bascome Jr (0) were all dismissed in three balls in the first over to leave Flatts at four for three in reply.

The home side struck again in the next over by snaring the prized scalp of danger man James Celestine (0) to tighten their stranglehold on the match.

Reggie Baker gathered an unbeaten 31 from 24 lower down the order as the visitors tried to recover.

However, the damage had already been done as Flatts ran out of overs to finish at 56 for five.

Ryan Steede led the bowling attack, claiming two for ten with the new ball, and was also involved in a run out.
