Police called after fight at sports club

A football fan threw a helmet at another supporter during a fight at Somerset Cricket Club on Saturday.Police said several altercations took place among the crowd at the game between Somerset Trojans and Boulevard Community Club during the afternoon.Additional police units were called in to calm the situation and the Boulevard team had to be escorted by police as they left the area on a minibus.A police spokesman said it was not clear if anyone was injured and no arrests have been made.He said: “Details remain limited at this time. However, early information suggests that at the end of the fixture, an unknown male spectator threw a helmet at another spectator, with several altercations then taking place within the crowd.”Security staff and members of the public helped the officers calm the situation.The spokesman said: “Police personnel later accompanied a minibus transporting Boulevard team members out of the area.“At this time, it is unclear if any members of the community present during the incident were hurt — but apparently none of the responding police officers were injured.“So far no arrests have been made in connection with this matter.”Somerset Cricket Club posted on its Facebook page last night: “There are no tensions between players or officials of either club. Also, no SCC players were involved.“Police presence was requested for the conclusion of the game to ensure safe departure of the visiting team in addition to us having hired security“SCC seeks to investigate this incident as a matter of urgency and take appropriate measures, which includes the banning of those responsible for this unsavoury incident.”Witnesses should call police on 295-0011 or Crime Stoppers on 800-8477.
