Individually this season junior cyclists Matthew Oliviera and Kaden Hopkins have been a force to be reckoned with. Combined today in the Digicel Two-up Time Trial they proved to be unstoppable.

The pair beat out 42 other teams in the race against the clock, finishing in a time of 35min 15.032sec.

With teams setting off at one minute intervals starting on North Shore Road near to Admiralty Park, heading east to Swizzle Inn roundabout and returning to the start-finish line, the two Winners Edge youngsters worked tirelessly together.

They set a blistering pace with the second place team of top local rider Dominique Mayho and Kwame Curling, his Madison team-mate, a full minute behind in 36:16.594. Veteran Mark Hatherley put all his experience to good use guiding Adam Kirk, his Winners Edge team-mate, in his first season of road racing, into third in a time of 37:39.256.

The top women’s pair were newcomer to cycling and renowned runner Rose-Anna Hoey and April Joyce, of team Madison, who recorded a time of 41:09.726, which was good enough for sixteenth overall.

Ashley Estwanick and Alison Petty-Schindel second in 42:17.570, and rounding out the top three were Karen Smith and Zonique Williams, the Winners Edge riders, in 42:34.052.

It was a close battle in the mixed category with only a second separating the top two teams, with Winners Edge pair Glenn Franklin and Penelope Butterfield edging out Madison duo Sarah Bonnet and Brian Drea in 41:53.298 and 41:54.355 respectively.

With Hopkins and Oliviera taking overall honours the second placed junior team of Ben Edwards and Timmy Marshall recorded a time of 44:21.627, with Nick Pilgrim and Caleb Ingham next in 44:34.148
