Matthew Oliveira continued to demonstrate strong form as he won yesterday’s Tokio Road Race.

The Adult A race was fought over a 40-mile course in the East End parishes which saw the field climb up Flatts Hill and through St Mark’s Road six times during the race.

Oliviera suffered a flat tyre on the first climb, but was able to continue with a team-mate’s wheel and chase back to the race.

The Winners Edge cyclist, alongside team-mate Kaden Hopkins, and Tokio’s Dave McComas broke from the field in the final laps with McComas finishing second in 1:45:55, a half-second behind Oliviera, with Hopkins third in 1:47:12 after the final sprint.

On slick roads, the Adult B race saw an early crash on lap one that split the field.

Robin Horsefield, who represented Bermuda in the 2016 Mountain Bike Championships in St Maarten last month, was forced to chase back to the field and joined a break with Jonah Jones, of Tokio. The pair held off the chasing pack in the final laps with Horsefield breaking for the win in 1:32:38. Jones was second in 1:33:06, with Peter Tadman third in 1;33:25.

Garth Fleming lead the Adult C race over the line with powerful final sprint to hold off Sergio Edness and Conor White in a race where the top nine finishers were all within six seconds of Fleming’s 1:16:13 time.

In the women’s race, the trio of Ashley Estwanik, Tristan Narraway, and Sarah Bonnett lead for a good portion of the race.

Estwanik made a break for the finish in the closing laps as the field closed in on the remaining pair. Rose-Anna Hoey was able to draw back the pair and take second, with Bonnett holding on to third place.

In junior racing, Caleb Ingham won the A division, with Manning Smith taking the B race.
