The eighth race of the Furniture Walk Mountain Bike Race Series, presented by Gubinelli Mendoza Wines, Arch Insurance & Becks Beer, took place at Hog Bay in Sandys at the weekend.

The turnout of 63 riders was smaller than usual because of bad weather and rescheduling.

Charles Swart, riding uncontested, took the male A division.

Swart, who is heading to South Africa with fellow racers Chris Roque and Dennis Fagundo for an eight-day mountain bike marathon, attended the race as a spectate but was persuaded to take part in his fifth outing of the series.

In the male veteran division, Hans Hirschi claimed the honours, with David Bryne in second and Andrew Hern coming third.

Nicholas Narraway won the male B class ahead of runner-up Alan Potts and third-place Alex Miller. The male novice division saw visitor Hamish Reid come out on top, with Simon Hanrahan in second and Cesar Oliveira coming third.

Ashley Robinson rode uncontested in the female B class, while Zina Jones won the female novice category.

In the male 13 to 15 division Manning Smith was victorious, with Keiran Malott in second and Gordon Smith placing third.

Meanwhile, Megan Hands won the female 13 to 15 class, Rory Fleming claimed the male 12 and under division, and Hailey Trott took the female 12 and under category.

The National Championships, hosted by the Bermuda Bicycle Association, will be held at Ferry Reach on Sunday.
