Quartet set for Championships in Guyana
Four teenage cyclists left Bermuda for Guyana where they will compete in the Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
Nicholas Narraway, Alexander Miller, Nazarai Fox and Liam Flannery will take on the best young riders from 19 countries in the region in both the time-trial and road race.
Narraway will compete in the 17 to 18 category, while Miller, Fox and Flannery will race in the 15 to 16 age group.
“Unfortunately there is a clash of events this year with the Carifta triathlon the following weekend in Jamaica and some athletes are concentrating on that event for this year,” explained Peter Dunne, the BBA president, who will accompany the team along with Darren Glasford.
“Hopefully, next year the events will have more space between them so that we can field a larger team.”
In 2018, Bermuda hosted the competition with huge success, winning all six events to demonstrate the depth of the local cycling talent.
Of the 2018 medallists for Bermuda, just Narraway is returning this year and is moving up to the older category.
In addition to his double gold-medal performance last year, Narraway won the junior category at the John T Memorial Race in Anguilla last month and is becoming a recognised force in regional competition.
In the Juvenile race, Miller, Fox and Flannery will be heading into the weekend knowing that they have a strong team.
Fox and Flannery raced in Anguilla in July and Miller has demonstrated his strength in the local racing scene.
Racing takes place in Bartica, Guyana, and starts with a time-trial on Saturday morning, followed by Sunday’s road race.
