A 70-year-old woman has died after crashing her car near Barnes Corner yesterday.

The single-vehicle crash happened at about 4.30pm.

A police spokesman said it appeared that the woman had lost control of her vehicle before it struck a tree.

He added: “This resulted in the woman being taken to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.”

She was pronounced dead shortly before 6pm. The spokesman said that no additional information would be provided until next of kin are notified.
