Progressive Labour Party MPs are to hold a public meeting on road safety tomorrow.

The Royal Gazette’s Drive for Change campaign will be among the speakers at the “Better Road Users” event organised by Tinée Furbert, Derrick Burgess and Wayne Furbert at Francis Patton Primary School in Hamilton Parish.

Anti-alcohol abuse charity Cada, community officers and the Road Safety Council will also attend the meeting from 6pm to 8pm.

A PLP spokesman said: “Residents of these constituencies and the wider community are encouraged to come out and listen to presentations on this topical and critical issue.”

A 49-year-old motorcyclist became the tenth person to die on Bermuda’s roads this year when his bike was in collision with a water truck at Barkers Hill roundabout in Devonshire on Monday.

The Drive for Change campaign and its partner, A Piece of the Rock, backed the introduction of roadside breath test checkpoints, which were used for the first time last month.

The campaign’s other objectives are the introduction of speed cameras and proper training for new motorbike riders.
