A water truck driver has been arrested on suspicion of impaired driving after the island’s tenth road death on Monday, police said last night.

The victim, a motorcycle rider, was identified as Marco Bowen, 49. The truck driver is a man, 32, from Paget.

The vehicles collided as they attempted to negotiate the roundabout at the junction of Barkers Hill and North Shore Road in Devonshire at about 5.30pm.

Paramedics battled to save Mr Bowen but he was pronounced dead after he was rushed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Police said an investigation into the crash continued and appealed for witnesses.

Dennis Lister III, a government MP and chairman of the Bermuda Road Safety Council, offered “our deepest and most sincere condolences” to Mr Bowen’s family and friends.
