The Royal Gazette’s Drive for Change road safety campaign celebrates its anniversary today.

Dexter Smith, Editor of The Royal Gazette, said: “Addressing the dangers on Bermuda’s roads was long overdue and The Royal Gazette is proud to have taken the lead.

“Public support for the campaign has grown exponentially over the course of the year, with companies and individuals across the island joining the movement.”

The road safety campaign was launched to help cut the grim toll of death and injury on the roads through roadside breath test checkpoints, speed cameras and improved training for new road users.

Mr Smith said: “We are pleased to announce that we will be further extending what was originally designed to be a six-month campaign to September of this year.

“Drive for Change looks forward to working on behalf of the community in the year ahead.”

The campaign and its partners at road safety group A Piece of the Rock celebrated several milestones in 2018.

The most significant step to boost safety on the roads came when legislation that legalised roadside breath test checkpoints was passed in July.

The campaign also staged events around the island designed to help highlight road safety and to promote personal responsibility on the roads.
