Class of 2016: the Bermuda High School graduates

Bermuda High School held its first ever Graduation Walk to celebrate the class of 2016 in a new tradition for the school.

As all of the students now enter the next phase of the BHS journey as alumni, the school wanted to recognise and celebrate them on their special day.

The graduating class paraded past the primary students in their caps and gowns to allow the younger students to congratulate them and share in the excitement of their graduation, and also remind the graduates of how far they have come.

Michael Dunkley addressed the 30 IB programme graduates and about 400 people in attendance.

As part of a speech to the students, the Premier said: “I see BHS as one of the enduring anchors of Bermuda life, nurturing generation after generation of young Bermudian women — and more recently young men — who’ve gone on to live fruitful lives through standards this school set for them.

“Pull back the lid and BHS is about eliminating barriers, it’s about empowerment and fair opportunity; it’s about making sure everyone gets the chance to reach their full potential.”
