Markel staff give students a boost

Helping out: school supplies donated by Markel staff

Staff from Markel Bermuda Limited helped children get ready for the new term with a back-to-school drive.

The company collected backpacks, lunch boxes and shopping bags full of markers, crayons and other school supplies by organising a drop-off box in its reception area. Those items were then passed on to families in need via Family Centre.

Nancy Da Silva, of Markel, said: “With so many social pressures children are the ones who suffer the most and need the most help. “So when we thought about helping out a charity, the idea of helping the kids start their school year well-equipped with school supplies seemed like a good one.

“I remembered as a child how excited I was when I started my first day back at school with new pencils, pens and books and I think that excitement is something that children today still feel. If Markel can make that happen for a few kids, then we have succeeded.”
