Bermuda High School for Girls revealed their new school mascot, Torch, to coincide with the printing of their National School Salute magazine in The Royal Gazette.

Torch the dragon, who was selected for the role after a schoolwide vote, was with BHS students to greet commuters on the main road into Hamilton today.

The new mascot represents the history of the school which is celebrated every year at the Torch Ceremony, and the flame which is passed on from generation to generation of BHS students.

Throughout the past two week’s, this newspaper’s School Salute coverage has been telling the tale of the history of Bermuda’s schools, thanks to a collective effort which has involved all 44 schools and learning institutions on the island.

The Royal Gazette has powered www.schoolsalute.bm which offers daily school updates and is carrying the school supplements.
