Learning workshop for teachers today
Teachers from all the island’s schools have been invited by Warwick Academy to a special workshop for educators today on the “art of learning”.
The school, supported by the Lancashire Foundation, is offering local teachers professional development workshop from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
Eric Lauzon, a former chief information officer for the International Baccalaureate programme, is now an internationally sought lecturer for the Art of Learning Foundation.
This week, Warwick Academy year 11 students will work with Mr Lauzon on exam confidence, while year 13 students, aged 17 and 18, will tackle goal setting and motivation.
On Thursday, the school will host a presentation for parents on preparing children for the 21st century.
Jill Finnigan, Warwick Academy’s director of staff and student development, said the school was “always looking for new opportunities to bring the education community together”.
As of Friday, more than 40 teachers from around the island had signed up for the workshop.
Consultants from the Art of Learning, based in New Zealand, have been visiting the island’s schools for more than a decade.
Thanks to Lancashire’s support, Mr Lauzon will also deliver a workshop for Family Centre on Tuesday and the Beyond Rugby programme on Wednesday.
Ms Finnigan said: “This means that Eric gets to work with a lot of different groups in the community.
“As educators, it’s important for us to learn from people who have been to other places in the world and are happy to pass on information.
“Everyone is so busy in Bermuda that sometimes we don’t take the time out to make the most of people like this who come to the island.”
