Talks about a proposal to permanently close TN Tatem Middle School will be held with parents and teachers next week, it was announced yesterday.The Ministry of Education said a consultation process will be carried out to help determine the future of the Warwick school, which was shut because of mould problems in April.It will work with “critical stakeholders” during a pre-consultation phase.The ministry explained: “The purpose of this pre-consultation period is to share information and obtain valuable feedback from parents, staff, principals, union representatives, boards of governors, and students, where possible.”Remarks will be gathered this month and will help to shape the formal consultation, which was expected to start in November.TN Tatem staff have been invited to a meeting at Bermuda College at 4pm on Thursday, with parents asked to attend at 5.30pm the same day.Diallo Rabain, the education minister, said in May that students would not return to the school after their summer break.He told parents then that work to tackle mould and other issues would take at least ten months to complete.Mr Rabain added that the required work would cost $3 million.At the time, the minister said a decision had been made to close TN Tatem for this academic year, but he was unable to confirm what would happen on a longer term basis because the Government plans to reform the wider school system.
