An eel seen recently in Long Bay, Somerset, is not uncommon to Bermuda’s waters.

Ian Walker, the principal curator at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo said the eel is nothing to worry about and that people should enjoy seeing it.

The spotted animal, which looks like a snake, is a gold-spotted eel (Myrichthys ocellatus) also known as the gold-spotted snake eel or the dark-spotted snake eel.

It is a marine tropical eel, which can be found in the western and eastern Atlantic Ocean, including Bermuda.

The gold-spotted eel inhabits rocky and coral reefs as low as 49ft deep. Males can grow up to to 3.6ft.
