Newly crowned Bermuda Professional Golf Association champion Daniel Augustus will resume his quest for a maiden victory on the Advocates Pro Tour when he tees off in tomorrow’s 54-hole event at the Chester Washington Golf Course in Los Angeles.

Augustus won last week’s BPGA event at Mid Ocean by a commanding 14 shots, and now intends to build on the momentum in the ‘City of Angels’.

“I have been playing well recently and now I am trying to keep the momentum going,” Augustus said. “My game is sharp in all areas and I can’t wait to play.”

The Advocates Pro Tour’s mission statement is to bring greater diversity to the game of golf by developing African-Americans and other minorities for careers in golf through professional tournaments, career fairs and mentoring sessions.

Augustus, a past Bermuda Open and Bacardi Par 3 champion, has made four previous appearances on the Tour this year, with his best showing the fourth place finish he achieved at the SummerGrove Golf Course in Atlanta in July.

“It’s a blessing to play on the Advocates Pro Tour,” Augustus said. “It’s tough and expensive, but I love every second of it because you get to go to different places, meet new people and play at courses I’ve never played before.

“Playing on the Tour is all a part of development as it helps tighten your game up playing in different conditions and in different areas, while teaching you different aspects of the game as well.

“The objective of this particular Tour is to try and get more black players on the PGA Tour and they have pretty good purses and a few players that have status on the Latin American Tour.

“Playing on the Tour is a great way to meet new people and build friendships.”

As for his dominant display at Mid Ocean last week, Augustus said: “Everything was sharp but I was a bit disappointed with my putting, I always struggle on the greens at Mid Ocean.

“But as far as hitting the ball, I found the lines that I chose. I was confident mentally and physically and doing everything I wanted to on the golf course as far as picking my lines.

“It always takes me about a week to adjust and I’m glad I got home a week earlier because the first day I didn’t play so well. But on the second day I caught myself and you saw the results.”
