Camiko Smith failed to qualify for this year’s Latin American Tour at the first attempt in Sebring, Florida yesterday.

The Bermuda professional golfer was left with a lot to do heading into the final round to keep his qualifying hopes alive and was ultimately unequal to the task.

Smith carded a bogeyed-riddled eight-over-par 80 — his worst round — to finish the 72-hole qualifier at the Sun N’ Lake Golf Club tied for 99th at 13-over-par 301.

He was two over par for the round, seven over for the tournament, at the turn after making two bogeys on the front nine.

That proved to be as good as it would get for Smith as he completely came undone on the back nine where he carded four bogeys and a double at the par-4 12th, which perhaps best summed up the player’s frustration.

Latin American Tour membership was awarded to the top 30 players and tied at the conclusion of the qualifier with the winner securing full exemption to the 2017 season.

The Latin American Tour is one of several lower-tier tours that factor into the Official World Golf Ranking.

Meanwhile, Bermuda’s Walker Campbell and Jarryd Dillas failed to make the cut at the Latin American Amateur Championship in Panama yesterday.

College of William and Mary student Campbell carded a seven-over-par 77 during the second round which left him 27 places shy of the cut with Dillas a further five shots adrift after managing an eight-over-par 78.

It is the second straight year the duo have failed to advance beyond the second round.

Campbell finished tied for 84th at 13-over-par 153 and Dillas tied for 97th at 18-over-par 158.

The winner of the championship, now in its third year, will secure a spot at this year’s Masters Tournament at the Augusta National Golf Club, which takes place between April 6 and 9.
