R&A director to visit island

Turtle Hill plays host to tomorrow’s corporate fundraiser

The Royal and Ancient’s Latin America and Caribbean regional director Mark Lawrie will be visiting the island next week, while the Bermuda Golf Foundation will be holding a corporate fundraising tournament at Turtle Hill tomorrow.

“The purpose of [Lawrie’s] visit is to review the developmental programmes taking place on the island and to consider Bermuda as potential host for future international golf events,” a Bermuda Golf Association statement said.

BGA president Craig Brown said: “This is an exciting week for golf in Bermuda. The relaunch of the BGF is a monumental moment for us. This tournament signifies a lot of the hard work done by the BGA/BGF Board and our collective commitment to developing golf across the island.”

The BGA also said of tomorrow’s event: “The aim of the event is to raise funds for various golf development initiatives that are under consideration. The foundation aims to grow, develop and sustain the game of golf on the island, with a key goal to introduce more people of all ages and gender to the sport of golf through age-specific developmental programmes.”

The event will be a “Captain’s Choice” tournament involving teams of four players. Corporate teams are welcome to enter a team and/or sponsor a tee. To register for the event please go to www.ptix.bm/bgf.
