Stroke Play Championships avoid Cup clash

Campbell will be leading Bermuda’s golf challenge at the Island Games

The Bermuda Golf Association are receiving entries for the Bermuda Stroke Play Championships, which will be held at Port Royal from July 7-9.

The event, usually held in June, has been put back so as not to conflict with the America’s Cup, which is in its final two weeks.

“Due to the America’s Cup occupying much of the month of June, we wanted to enable our membership to enjoy this prestigious event without conflict,” the BGA said. “Also we have eight of our top golfers competing in the 2017 NatWest Island Games in Gotland, Sweden.

“The men’s team of Walker Campbell, Jarryd Dillas, Mark Phillips and Will Haddrell, together with the ladies team of Elizabeth Parsons, Katrin Burnie, Linda Down and Tariqah Walikraam, will be leaving for the Island Games on June 22 and returning to Bermuda on July 1.

“The Senior Stroke Play Championships will also be included in the Stroke Play Championships to form the three division, men, senior men and ladies. This is a very popular event and we look forward to a good number of entries.”

Haddrell and Parsons are the men’s and ladies defending champions and both will be back after competing in the Island Games.

Players may sign up for the tournament by visiting the Bermuda Golf Association website at www.bermudagolf.org and clicking on the Bermuda Stroke Play Championship link for information, conditions of competition and entry forms.
