Daniel Augustus is on a roll.

The Bermudian golfer captured a second straight title on the OGA Moonlight Tour after completing a three-shot victory at the Champions Gate International Golf Course in Orlando, Florida yesterday.

Augustus carded a final round three-over 75, that contained three birdies and six bogeys, to finish the 36-hole championship with a one-under 143.

Devin Suri, of Florida, finished second at two-over 146 and Casey Komline, of Vermont, in third a further shot back.

Augustus, a former Bermuda Open and Bacardi National Par 3 Championship winner, started the final round with a three-shot cushion and, despite enduring struggles with the putter and his ball-striking, managed to stay ahead of the chasing pack.

“I was actually disappointed in the way I played,” Augustus said. “I am glad to have won, but my ball-striking was sub par, which is unlike me. I drove the ball great all day but the best part of my game wasn’t good at all.”

Augustus, who hit nine greens in regulation and eleven out of 14 fairways, relied on his short game to stay afloat.

“I relied heavily on my short game and I’m glad it was tidy today,” he said. “I was getting up and down from places I had no business being after hitting the centre of the fairway.

“I also putted poorly but the positives where my driving as well as my touch around the greens. It kept my score from becoming too high.

“The course was playing more difficult than the first round. They had the course close to the tips yesterday, today they played it as long as they could. The greens had formed up a bit as well.

“There was only one or two easy pins today. The rest were tucked away in places that if you missed on the wrong side you were not getting up and down.

“Overall I’m glad I got the ‘W’ but I’m not allowing it to cloud the fact that I should have done better. I still have work to do and I can’t get ahead of myself.

“I need to close better than I did today. I know there’s even greater things I can do as I continue to improve and work hard.”

Augustus fired a bogey-free four-under-par 68 in the first round and went into the tournament with momentum after capturing a maiden Moonlight Tour victory — his first professional title in the United States — at the MetroWest Golf Course in Orlando.
