There will be an added incentive for those participating in today’s Bermuda Golf Association Monthly Medal tournament at Turtle Hill Golf Club.

As well as bragging rights, the gross and net winners in the men’s and women’s fields in the 18-hole event will earn a free spot at next month’s Grey Goose World Par 3 Championship.

“Whoever wins the different divisions gets a free place or qualifies for the Grey Goose World Par 3 tournament,” Paul Adams, the Turtle Hill director of golf, confirmed.

Traditionally, local players had to qualify for the Grey Goose World Par 3 Championship through the Bacardi National Par 3 Championship.

However, that will not be the case this year as organisers have decided not to stage the Bacardi National Par 3 event and channel all of their energy into the Grey Goose event instead.

The Grey Goose World Par 3 Championship is now open to any local player that pays the entry fee along with the winners of today’s BGA’s Monthly Medal event at Turtle Hill who get a free ride.

“The focus has been on the Grey Goose for this year and I think it’s [Bacardi National Par 3 Championship] gone away temporarily and not completely,” Adams said.

“The overseas entries have been open for a number of months and now the entries for locals is fully open.”

This year’s Grey Goose World Par 3 Championship will be held March 2-3 at Turtle Hill Golf Club and will again feature PGA Champions Tour player and Golf Channel personality Charlie Rymer.

“Charlie Rymer is the big draw and our main household name,” Adams said.

“He actually started his career on the Champions Tour and he seems to be very much a lead host on the Golf Channel and brings a lot of value to it. This is like his sixth year here and he loves it.

“We’ve got lots of cool people coming down that have a big social media profile and then obviously you’ve got your locals like Daniel Augustus, Camiko Smith, Dwayne Pearman and Jevon Roberts.”

American Chris Ward won last year’s Grey Goose World Par 3 Championship for the first time while former Web.com Tour player Micheal Sims was the top local player and tied for tenth overall.
