Leave your desk and join town crier Ed Christopher for a dance walk through the City of Hamilton.

The event, put on by the Department of Health, will be back by popular demand next Wednesday and organisers are hopeful that the second instalment will be bigger and better.

“From the success of the first one we did, we thought we would do it again,” Health Promotion co-ordinator Virloy Lewin said.

“We’re hoping that it will be a bigger turnout. We’d love to have as many people as possible come and join us for the dance walk.

“This is for all abilities, all ages. You don’t have to dance, you can just walk and get into a little rhythm.

“It’s for those that know how to dance and those that don’t know how to dance.

“It’s just being active, getting moving and having fun doing it because if you’re having fun while exercising, you’re more likely to continue doing it.”

Dr Lewin added that the dance walk would also promote the upcoming Celebrating Wellness event, which will be held on September 28.

“Celebrating Wellness is all about promoting physical activity and healthy eating, so this part of it, the dance walk, is getting out and moving and being more physically active.

“We wanted to do it in a fun way. People had such a great time and you don’t feel like you’re exercising, you’re having such a fun time and music helps it.

Town crier Ed Christopher proved to be such a hit with participants of the first dance walk in May that he will be leading the group again. The one-hour event starts at the Ministry of Health headquarters on Church Street at 12pm. Participants will make their way along Court Street, Front Street, Queen Street, Reid Street and Burnaby Street to the entrance of the Washington Mall on Church Street. Pit-stops will be at the corner of Church Street and Parliament Street, Church Street and Court Street, Court Street and Front Street, the Birdcage, the entrances to Washington Mall and the corner of Reid Street and Burnaby Street.
