Bermuda go down against Rochester

Bermuda's hockey team suffered a defeat at the NSC

Bermuda went down to a 1-0 defeat to the University of Rochester at the National Sports Centre last night.

Maya Haigis scored the winning goal for the Yellowjackets in the third quarter, who were much improved from their 3-0 defeat by the national side last week.

Bermuda had their first chance in the second quarter when Taylor Mullan started a move down the left and switched play to the right, from where Azari Thomas made a great run into the shooting circle, but nobody could get on the end of her driving pass.

Bermuda had to withstand heavy pressure when they conceded, but Alex Francis forced a sprawling save from Rochester goalkeeper Kate Kujawa.

There was late agony for the home side when LaKae Tavares’s effort from a penalty corner hit the back of the net but was ruled out for dangerous play.

Bermuda play Worcester Polytechnic Institute tonight and Shippensburg University on Saturday. Both games start at 6pm at the NSC.
