Major trust conference to return next year

Attractive conference: Sean Moran of the BDA

A major conference for transcontinental trusts specialists is to return to Bermuda next year.

Organisers of the Transcontinental Trusts International Forum said two previous events had been successful with growing numbers attending.

David Gold, commercial director for UK-based IBC Global Conferences, said: “The support, enthusiasm and togetherness of the Bermuda trust industry continues to mark the forum in every practitioner’s calendar.

“The 2016 event built on the outstanding success of 2015 and somehow managed to surpass it in quality of the programme and number of attendees.

“The event is now firmly established as the largest event in IBC’s private client series and will no doubt go from strength to strength in the coming years.”

The event is scheduled to be held again at the Fairmont Southampton hotel, with precise dates in May still to be scheduled.

Ross Webber, Bermuda Business Development Agency chief executive officer, who made the opening remarks at this year’s event, held last month, said: “Bermuda is a perfect fit to be host venue, given our heritage as one of the world’s leading and oldest international wealth-planning jurisdictions — a place for quality.

“The BDA is proud to be lead sponsor of this conference for that same reason. We’re committed to ensuring Bermuda remains at the forefront of international trust law and making certain our domicile provides an innovative, competitive, fit-for-purpose product.”

More than 260 people attended this year’s conference, up from the 230 in its first year and numbers are expected to rise again for next year’s event.

Sean Moran, BDA business development manager, who secured the event for Bermuda two years ago, said: “By all accounts, it is becoming one of the must-attend events on the trust and private calendar.”

He added: “As we look forward to next year, we’re already talking with organisers and sponsors about ways to make it even better in 2017.”

Keith Robinson, a high-value trust disputes and restructurings expert at law firm Appleby, said: “The breadth and quality of both the content and attendees is remarkable and places Bermuda at the forefront of thought leadership in trusts and estates.”
