We can’t get mail – it’s ridiculous

Dear Sir,

Please allow me to vent my frustrations regarding Southampton Post Office.

I have lived here in the Southampton area for 20 years. Seven months ago, our post lady retired and since then we have had no delivery of mail to our address.

Instead we and my neighbours have to pick up mail from the Southampton Post Office.

Just recently, I was informed that I would no longer be able to pick up mail for my husband, of 41 years, without a letter from him allowing me.

This also applies to my neighbours’ mail — they both work full time.

This has put an unnecessary stress on an already strained counter staff, who have to pass over mail for both SN1 and SN2 home mailboxes — an approximate total of 850 homes — not to mention myself having to scribe a letter for my husband to sign allowing this.

This whole system fails, mail has been backing up and just this past week alone, no mail has been sorted owing to staff shortages.

This is a ridiculous position; not only for the staff to explain to customers, but also for the taxpaying customers in Southampton.

The simple solution would have been to either hire another post person or to hire a post sorter for the area.

We may have mail, but can’t get it.
