I get a sense that our politicians regard the referendum “result”, although invalid and non-binding, as a reason to discard any plan to deal with the same-sex marriage issue in Parliament.

I hope that they will bear in mind that 68 per cent of registered voters did not vote “No”. Slightly less than 32 per cent voted “No”.
