Letter was a welcome sight

A welcome sight: the letter from Femi Bada touched on the powers of the Bermuda Health Council

Dear Sir,

What a welcome sight to open today’s newspaper (July 15) and see the letter from Femi Bada.

I have felt like a voice in the wilderness with my comments on the ever-growing powers of the Bermuda Health Council, whom I have accused of empire building for the past eight years.

Come on, all health professionals and express your displeasure at what is being imposed on how you practise and what you have to have in the premises where you are practising.

As Dr Bada rightly states, the health professions are governed by their own governing bodies. We do not need government bureaucrats, or similar people from a quango, dictating what and how we work.

I reiterate what Dr Bada said in that accountants, lawyers, etc, are not controlled by a similar body.

After my last letter to you, concerning the empire building of the health council and the cost of this council to the taxpayer, I was contacted by a medical practitioner who had voiced similar opinions in the past.

However, I will let him express his views if he so cares.

Although I am now retired, I hate to see what I have worked for go down the drain and wish to voice an opinion to protect the younger, up-and-coming professionals.

I am glad I am no longer involved — I would die from a heart attack because of the stress being imposed on one’s practice.
