Imagine Bermuda with just one MP

Cut down: a reader questions whether we need so many MPs

Dear Sir,

I have just been reading on the BBC news site, about the proposed boundary changes in the UK.

They are proposing the number of MPs be reduced from 650 to 600 (which I understand will be a saving of some £66 million to the taxpayer), and the constituencies are being equalised so that no constituency will have fewer than 71,031 eligible voters or more than 78,507.

Then the thought came to me that the total number of voters in Bermuda is just over half of the minimum in the UK, so technically, we need one MP to run the country! Just think of the savings we would have and also there would not be any bickering or conflict, because there would not be anyone with whom to argue.

A fascinating scenario!
