Shootings still go on, Mr Dunkley

Police at the scene of a fatal shooting at Western Stars Sports Club in the early hours of Thursday

Dear Sir,

During the days when the Premier, Michael Dunkley, was on the Opposition bench in the House of Assembly, and there was a fatal shooting on the island, you can be sure that he, along with the late Jim McKey, would be on the news that day or the next day for him to make some remarks on the incident as Shadow Minister for National Security.

After some remarks, which included condolences, he would always find a way to point a finger at the government of the day, as to say that the Government could and should have stopped the shooting. With this in mind, one would have thought that whenever Dunkley’s party becomes the Government that the shootings would have stopped.

Dunkley’s party has indeed become the Government and the shootings are still going on. Stabbings and robberies are on the increase, and what has compounded the situation is that Dunkley himself is now the Premier and the conditions still exist. He should apologise to the Progressive Labour Party for the finger-pointing or else take personal responsibility for the shootings that are taking place under his watch.
