Our police should be commended

Peaceful protest?: police and protesters clash outside the House of Assembly (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

Dear Sir,

I consider the actions of the police admirable and totally justified in this ugly and unnecessary situation.

What was touted as “a peaceful demonstration” quickly turned into a disgraceful and very dangerous display of mob violence. The police are trained to recognise this and I thought they showed considerable restraint for as long as possible.

However, when things turned ugly and highly dangerous, they moved quickly to control and I have nothing but praise and admiration for the way they did what is, after all, their job.

Which is to protect the people of Bermuda from the actions of pushing, shoving and shouting hotheads, who accomplish nothing from this kind of disgusting behaviour.

Kudos to our police force.
